Coping with your child leaving the care of your umbrella
When a child leaves home for the first time it is often a very exciting move for the individual. However for parents it can be an extremely difficult change or transition. This difficult adjustment is often normal but for some parents it can lead to distressing times. This is common in a parent or parents who may have attachment issues.
“Helicopter Parents” or those parents who tend to hover over their children are often the parents who have a difficult time “letting go”.
Keeping a child under your care and responsibility even when they are old enough to look after themselves can lead to serious consequences. When a child leaves home for the first time, parents may suffer from depression and feelings of loss.
